Please congratulate the following recipients of the Golden Acorn Award! This award honors those who have offered exemplary levels of service, generosity, and commitment to Spiritridge. The following three people are examples of what it takes to have a place like our Spiritridge community. If you see them around, please extend your thanks to them!
Susan Braun – For multiple years, Susan has eagerly supported almost every event at Spiritridge. Her artistic talents have been put to use through sign making, and donating her beautiful handmade jewelry and other items to our auction. Susan is someone you can call for help with any project, event, or problem, and she will jump in. She flies under the radar, but things just wouldn’t happen without her being there. She is a “yes” person, and the teachers are ecstatic when they know Susan is a parent in their class, because all will be taken care of. Susan is a fine example of the many parents in our school that are dependable, dedicated, and indispensable! We will miss her next year as she moves her talents onto middle school. Thank you so much, Susan.
Susie Pietz – Susie has an endless amount of passion and energy focused toward Spiritridge. She has successfully chaired the auction committee for the past three years, and has been integral to its success by bringing in over $200,000. This year, as VP of Fundraising, Susie also masterminded the strategy of the “No-Effort” fundraising, which brings money to our school from businesses that we frequent. She works all around the clock, searching for that next great idea, all while lovingly raising her 4 children, and holding down a full time job. Her accomplishments are amazing and extend into our community as well. Thank you, Susie, for your extreme dedication to Spiritridge, and always inspiring us to try new things.
Julie Mermelstein – Julie is a big thinker and a big doer, passionate about family, education, and community. She has been known for having her finger on the pulse of what is needed by our school, and then putting into action programs to fulfill those needs. The Teacher Wish List, Spiritfund, and Paper for Pupils were all started up by Julie. She has co-chaired three auctions, excelling in the art of procurement, and launching Spiritridge into a new era of fundraising. Her attentions are global as well, as she led a fundraising effort for mosquito nets for Africa, and a coin drive to provide some relief for Tsunami victims in 2004. This year, as our Legislative Chairperson, she has represented our school in Olympia in the fight for better funding for public education. And during her stint as PTSA President, Julie was known for her “round table” discussions, her inclusive leadership style, and her welcoming demeanor. We are lucky to have her. Thank you, Julie!
