Math Enrichment

Spiritridge PTSA Math Enrichment Program (MEP) is for students interested in a math enrichment opportunity covering advanced math topics for 4th and 5th graders. The focus is on interesting word problems and developing advanced problem solving skills. The topics include geometry, probability, rates/ratios/proportions, counting problems, logic, and number theory.  This program is run by Spiritridge parents.

Meetings

The MEP will run from October 18 to May 29, Tuesdays from 3:45 to 4:45, except for school holidays and closures

Meeting Location: Phantom Lake Elementary School (1050 160th Ave. SE, Bellevue, WA 98008), parents will be responsible for transportation to and from Phantom Lake Elementary School.

Registration

Registration was from Oct.3-10.  Approximately seventy students registered and all classes are full.

The $35 registration fee covers on-site math contests and photocopying. 

Students who elect to participate in off-site contests will pay separate fees at the time of those contests. (Participation in off-site math contests will be optional and not sponsored by the PTSA.)

All Parents must volunteer at least twice a year during an MEP session.
  1. All MEP parents must be PTSA Members.   If you are not already a member, download a form on our Forms Page and drop it off along with your membership payment in the box marked “Math Enrichment Program” located in the Spiritridge office - before registering.

  2. All MEP volunteers must be on the VIBES approved volunteer list.  If you are not already approved, please download the form  and turn it into the Spiritridge office before registering.  


Math Contests

AMC8 : Spiritridge students participated in the AMC 8 (a global competition, sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America) on November 15, 2011.

In the 2010 AMC8, one Spiritridge student placed earned a distinction, placing in the top 1%!  
Another student was on the honor roll, scoring in the top 5%, and eight Spiritridge students were on the achievement roll for 6th graders or below with high scores.

Coaching
